RU Spring Semester Orientation

New Student Orientation

Congratulations on your enrollment at Rockhurst University! The Office of Student Life welcomes you to the Hawk family. The role of our office is to introduce you to RU and provide support during your transition. If you have already placed your deposit you will soon be receiving via U.S. Mail a newsletter and checklist with a great deal of information. Please review all the information for details on what to complete before classes begin.

New student orientation is your first experience at Rockhurst. Orientation will be held virtually on Monday, January 11 at 6:00 pm .  Orientation explains what to expect from your Rockhurst experience and introduces you to resources, peers, faculty and staff. Please check your Rockhurst email weekly and watch your U.S. mail for a detailed Newsletter that will be mailed mid November.  Due to COVID-19 many programs are being evaluated and altered and as soon as more is known, it will be posted here and emailed to you.

 

Please be sure to RSVP for the virtual orientation by Monday, January 4, 2021 so that you will receive the Zoom Link for Orientation.  RSVP's for orientation will be taken after January 4, 2021 for those who place their Rockhurst deposit after the RSVP deadline.

January 2021 New Student Checklist to Complete Before Classes Begin

  • Follow all Rockhurst Social Media
    • Instagram: @RockhurstUniversity @RockhurstStudentLife
  • Meet with an academic advisor and schedule classes.
  • Set up your RU email account and check it regularly for important updates and announcements. Contact Computer Services or watch a How to Video found here.
  • Learn how to view your class schedule and other important student information through my.rockhurst.edu. Your login is your Rockhurst User name and password you established when setting up your email.
  • RSVP for Orientation by Monday, January 4, 2021 (coming soon). Virtual Orientation is held Monday, January 11, 2021 at 6:00 pm 
  • Complete the two online courses no later than January 31, 2021, look for the "Get Inclusive" button on the Rockhurst portal (my.rockhurst.edu)
  • Review your schedule of fall classes and order books online: rockhurst.bncollege.com.
  • If you received accommodations at your previous school, visit the Disability Resource Center or call 816-501-4826.
  • If you have health insurance, complete the online health insurance waiver by January 29 at rockhurst.edu/healthinsurance. Health insurance is required for all Troost campus students and for the BSN students at the Westport campus.
  • Submit your immunizations and complete the TB questionnaire: rockhurst.edu/healthinsurance.
  • Tuition and fees emailed to your Rockhurst email November 20, 2020.  Make payment arrangements or pay the bill in full no later than January 11, 2021
  • If choosing to live on campus, make sure housing is established, Massman Hall Room 3 (lower level) or 816-501-4663 
  • Be sure that all CLEP exam, AP scores and transcripts are sent to the Registrars Office, Rockhurst University, 1100 Rockhurst Road, Kansas City, MO 64110.
  • Register for Rock Alerts here (campus emergency notification system) at rockhurst.edu/emergency.

Optional

  • Sign up  have a Peer Coach, here   Peer coaches work to provide a welcoming and encouraging environment conducive to student success. A peer coach serves as an academic mentor, an advocate, and as a resource for up to ten individual students for a year (August to April). The coach should be prepared to develop their leadership skills, inclusivity, and advocacy skills. They will be expected to be reliant, maintain high levels of confidentiality, and should be a self-starter.  The Peer Coaches will earn the Certified Peer Educator recognition, joining a national network of students.
