Incoming freshmen at Rockhurst University

Welcome Future Hawks!

We’re going to achieve more together than you can possibly imagine. That ambition you feel in your core, your ideas, your goals, your future – all can be unlocked at Rockhurst University. We are ready to get started. RU?

Here’s a simple, new student to do list to review before arriving on campus.

ASAP: Financial Aid & FAFSA

File your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to apply for additional financial aid and review our costs and scholarships. Bills will be emailed to your student email July 8 and will be due August 1. If you do not want to pay in full on August 1, enroll in a student accounts payment plan before that date.

Contact: Financial Aid
Contact: Student Accounts (Questions about payments and set up a payment plan)

By May 1: Secure your Spot!

Log into the RU Application Portal to submit your $200 enrollment deposit (nonrefundable) to lock in your spot in the incoming class.

RSVP to Class Registration Events

Why wait until summer to set your fall college schedule? Meet with advisors and faculty to select classes, finalize housing and meal plan options, take your student ID picture, set up your RU email, and more. You'll leave an official Rockhurst University Hawk! You can sign up after submitting your enrollment deposit. Registration days are in April and May (invites and details sent in March).

June 24 – August 23: Health Insurance Enrollment or Waiver

All full-time undergraduate students (12 hours or more) and graduate students (9 hours or more) are required to enroll in our comprehensive health care plan unless proof of current health insurance coverage is given to Health Services by the waiver deadline of August 23, 2019. Complete the Health Insurance Waiver process if you already have your own health insurance coverage. Need more information? Visit rockhurst.edu/healthinsurance.

Fill Out the Student Immunization Information

Rockhurst University requires ALL new students to complete the TB questionnaire and all residential students to provide proof of two MMR vaccines and a meningitis vaccine. Submit your immunizations and complete the TB questionnaire at rockhurst.edu/healthinsurance. Details are available here.

Contact your Roommate

If you are living on campus, reach out and get to know your roommate. Room and roommate assignments are sent no later than mid-July.

Start Packing

Get packed and prepared for Move-in Day, August 16, 2019 (August 13 for desk assistants and early fall athletic teams). Mark everything with your name and room number. Additional information can be found here.

Consent to Conduct Business Online & Financial Responsibilities Approval

New this year: Undergraduates must complete a process to confirm consent to conduct business online, as well as obtain financial responsibilities approval. Full information and procedures will be released shortly.

Student Loan Counseling & Acceptance Process

Complete the student loan counseling and acceptance process. Information was sent from the Financial Aid Office over the summer. For more information, contact Financial Aid.

Reserved Parking – Hawks Fans Only

Not really, but for security reasons you do need a permit to park on campus. Register your vehicle online or opt out of parking costs at rockhurst.edu/parking. You can complete the parking permit form there and pick up your pass at orientation.

Personal Property Insurance

Although we certainly don’t expect any incidents, students living on campus are responsible for protecting their personal property and making sure it is properly maintained. The University is not responsible or liable for the loss, theft or damage of property maintained by the student. You may wish to obtain personal property insurance. This is recommended, but not mandatory. We work with NSSI to help provide affordable property insurance if you are interested. See the National Student Services, Inc. website for details.

Get Involved!

Start thinking about which student organizations you’re interested in.

Review our Student Consumer Information

The Higher Education Act of 2008 (HEOA) requires that postsecondary institutions participating in federal student aid programs disclose information from various administrative areas to students. The following information is disclosed by Rockhurst University in compliance with federal law.

By August 1: Complete Online Courses

All first-year students must complete the new student online courses, AlcoholEDU & Sexual Assault Prevention, before August 1 to be entered into a drawing for one of three $100 gift certificates. Students not completing the courses by the end of August are subject to a $50 fine. Instructions and login information were emailed to your Rockhurst email account in late June.

August 16-18, 2019: New Student Orientation & Move-in

Since your classes are squared away through the registration events, orientation at RU is about building connections, learning about resources and opportunities, and kicking off an outstanding first year at Rockhurst! Orientation (and on-campus Move-in Day) starts the Friday before the first day of classes, so August 16 this year. More information about new student orientation (and hotels if needed) is available at rockhurst.edu/orientation and sent throughout the summer to new students who have paid their deposit. Information is also available about our Transfer Orientation (Transfer students: RSVP required by August 2 for either the August 9 Transfer Orientation or the August 16-18 Traditional Orientation).
