2022-2023 Student Health Insurance Information

In our continued effort to promote good health among our students, assist students in meeting health care reform mandates, and keep costs at a competitive level, Rockhurst University reviewed options for the 2022-23 plan year, beginning August 1, 2022. We are pleased to announce that we will be renewing our plan with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas City for the 2022-23 academic year.

Enrollment in the University sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is mandatory for all full time undergraduate (12 credit hours or more) and graduate (9 credit hours or more) students. Students must actively attend classes and remain enrolled with Rockhurst for the first 31 days of each term to be eligible for coverage. Individual coverage has to be active by August 1st for the waiver to be approved.

If you are interested in participating in the student health insurance plan, please follow the steps outlined below.

I heard that full-time undergraduate and graduate students are required to have the student health insurance offered via Rockhurst. Is that true?

Enrollment in the University sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is mandatory for all full time (12 hours or more) undergraduate and for all full time (9 hours or more) graduate students in the following programs: PT, OT, and CSD. These students are automatically enrolled in the plan and the cost is added to your student account. Exceptions include M.Ed, MSN, Ed.D, AA, AS, RN to BSN, post-baccalaureate, and all graduate students in the College of Business, Influence and Information Analysis students, all of whom may voluntarily enroll in the plan. Spouses and children of fulltime students may also be eligible for enrollment in the plan. More information can be found at www.rockhurst.edu/healthinsurance, under Student Insurance, 2022–2023.

Students must actively attend classes and remain enrolled with Rockhurst for the first 31 days of each term to be eligible for coverage.

What are the benefits of having student health insurance in addition to the coverage already offered by my employer/parents/spouse?

The University negotiated a comprehensive and affordable student health insurance plan for Rockhurst students with Relation Insurance. Given the benefits offered for the cost, this is a great way to address health care costs for injuries and sickness as well as to help pay for care during periods of medical crisis.
