Joining a Fraternity or Sorority at Rockhurst
Men and women join fraternities and sororities through recruitment, a mutual selection process that allows current members and potential new members to meet and learn about one another. You will also learn about the many benefits of membership in a Greek organization. This means that potential new members will be able to explore the right fit for them, as will chapters. Rockhurst has deferred recruitment, which does not allow first semester freshmen to affiliate with any Greek organization. The structure of recruitment gives equal opportunity to all organizations to recruit new members.
Sorority Recruitment
Panhellenic offers four opportunities prior to recruitment to learn more about sorority life at Rockhurst. In the Fall semester Sorority Info Night provides information about the benefits of sorority membership and what to expect throughout the recruitment process. Chapter Info Night gives each of our four sororities a brief opportunity to tell you about their chapter in particular. Fall Party simulates rounds of formal recruitment to help you get acclimated to the fast pace. You will have conversations with current members of our sororities and meet other women who are interested in joining. Fall Party also marks the opening of recruitment registration. Formal recruitment occurs before classes start in January. It is a four-day mutual selection process during which there are “rounds” of events with opportunity for interaction with the chapters. The schedule at Rockhurst includes Philanthropy Round, Sisterhood Round, and a formal Preference Round.

IFC Open House Opportunities
IFC Open Houses provide you an opportunity to learn more about fraternity life at Rockhurst. There is no obligation to join if you attend these events, but in order to accept an invitation to join a fraternity you MUST have attended one IFC Open House. Open Houses will include a presentation from the Interfraternity Council Executive Board and an opportunity to interact with all three fraternities to learn more about their organizations and members. Check out the website, your email and flyers on campus for exact times and locations. Individual fraternities will hold invitational recruitment events the two weeks following the January Open Houses, during which you learn about their brotherhood firsthand.
