- About
The fraternity/sorority values at Rockhurst line up perfectly with the mission of the institution: “Learning, Leadership, and Service in the Jesuit tradition.” You will find that your development in these areas continues in and out of the classroom, through fraternities and sororities and other involvement on campus.
Learning
Chapters place a strong emphasis on scholarship, offering academic workshops and study hour requirements for members. The result is that the Greek GPA is consistently higher than the University average. Learning also incorporates the personal and professional development of members through chapter- and University-sponsored educational programming. The skills members gain during their college years are valuable long after graduation.
Leadership
Fraternity and sorority members are actively involved in almost every other aspect of campus life and student organizations, including Student Senate, Student Activities Board and Campus Ministry, and serve as Orientation Coordinators, Resident Assistants and Social Mentors. Greeks are also involved in the greater Kansas City community through service and internships. Fraternities and sororities offer training and leadership development programs at the local and national levels as well to help members strengthen skills. If you choose to take on a leadership role, you will have the chance to be the leader of what is essentially a small business – developing a vision, managing a budget and building a team.
Service
The past academic year, the Rockhurst Greek community donated 11,275 of their time to service projects and raised $12,300 in charitable donations. Participation in service projects not only benefits the community, but facilitates personal growth and unity among members of fraternities and sororities. Along with giving time to hands-on service projects, each Greek organization raises money for a national philanthropy through special fundraising events. In fact, each of our seven groups sponsor an entire week dedicated to raising money for their charitable organization of choice.
Brotherhood/Sisterhood
The fraternity and sorority experience offers unmatched opportunities for lifelong friendships with men and women who have similar values and interests. Fraternity brothers and sorority sisters help members become the very best version of themselves. Members offer support through each person’s greatest successes and most trying challenges not only during the college years, but through all of adulthood. Fraternity and sorority membership is unique in that it is truly a lifelong experience.
