In the interest of security, staffing, and energy conservation, McGee Hall and Corcoran Hall will close during winter and spring breaks. Information regarding these closings will be sent to all residents prior to the beginning of each break period. THV, Kateri and Rock Row communities do not close for academic breaks. All residence halls remain open for Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break and Easter Break. Generally, there are limited dining services during all breaks. Residents will be notified of dining times and available locations. Meal plan usage is limited during break periods. Find more information below.

Those students who live on campus and are graduating on May 9 can stay in their spaces until Sunday, May 10 at noon. Rockhurst/UMKC dual-enrolled students living on campus can also remain in their residential assignments through Saturday, May 16, at noon. For those needing a late stay for these two reasons, please fill out the online request form by Thursday, April 30. The Office of Residence Life will follow up with students requesting a late stay.
Only those students who are approved to stay late will be allowed in the residence halls after closing.
Exceptions and Additional Information
Students must exit and return to the residence halls as outlined in the calendar above. The only exception to staying in a residence hall is for academic/university-related purposes. Academic purpose is defined as students participating in internships, service trips, athletics, or activities for an academic program. The department requiring a resident to stay must provide a list of students who need to be on campus for verification by the Residence Life Office. Students who meet these requirements must fill out the online request linked above by Thursday, April 30.
Students who do not meet the academic purpose requirement must leave the residence halls on time. A student will receive a fine and/or a daily rate charge if they choose not to leave. Students flying home for breaks must plan their flights in accordance with the residence hall closings. Students who have a flight delay or a flight change must check in with the Residence Life Office. If there is a flight complication and you have been approved to remain or arrive early in the hall until the flight, a daily rate charge will be applied to your student account. The daily rate charge varies per building and room payments do not cover the daily rate charge. We will not extend your stay in a residence hall to meet travel, vacation plans or employment.
Health and safety inspections will be conducted at various times. The staff will post signs at least 12 hours before starting inspections. For more information about health and safety inspections, please contact the Office of Residence Life.
