The Special Education concentration (includes online classes and on-campus) is designed to provide educators with the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively with students having mild to moderate cross-categorical disabilities. Students in this concentration area spend a significant amount of time in diverse school settings during the day. Special attention is given to differentiating instruction and utilizing research-based practices to meet the needs of students with exceptionalities included in general education classrooms and partnering with parents and other special education professionals to effectively implement academic or behavioral interventions.

Course Map
The M.Ed. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Special Education requires 37 credit hours, which includes a 1 credit-hour action research capstone project course. The curriculum includes courses such as Evaluation of Abilities and Achievement, Social and Affective Interventions, Foundations of Special Education, and Educational Leadership. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to design and complete an action research capstone project (with mentoring) relevant to their personal and professional development goals.

Students will have access to graduate student funds to support their action research and professional development experiences.
During content methods courses, students will have the opportunity to be placed in diverse K-12 school settings and complete tasks to connect theory and practice as they develop knowledge and skills for curriculum and instruction.
