Liturgical Ministry

Students have the opportunity to be Eucharistic ministers, lectors, altar servers, greeters, cantors, instrumentalists, and members of the contemporary ensemble for the student liturgies.

Altar Server: A vital and valued position, the altar server assists the priest with several aspects of the Mass, ensuring that details are attended to and that the Mass progresses seamlessly and prayerfully. Contact Bill Kriege at 816-501-4855.

Lector: The lector is responsible for proclaiming the Word of God to us through the scriptures. The lector speaks the stories of God to the people of God. Contact Bill Kriege at 816-501-4855.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: Communion is a major sign of the inclusive hospitality of Christ who calls all of us to the table, who unifies us, with all our differences, through Christ’s very presence, in the Body and Blood. The Eucharistic minister assists with Communion as servant, host and helper.  Contact Bill Kriege at 816-501-4855.

Cantor: Lead the assembly in song for Rockhurst liturgies. Contact Hyunki Yoon at 816-501-4869.

Joyful Noise: Student vocalists and musicians are invited to share their talents in Joyful Noise, a contemporary musical group which leads the singing at one student liturgy per month and twice a month at IMPACT, Rockhurst’s praise and worship group.  Faithful attendance to Friday morning practices, musical talent, and a desire to invite others into the Spirit of the song are all that’s required!  Contact Bill Kriege at 816-501-4855.

Instrumentalist: Flutists, trumpeters, guitarists and percussionists, share your talent by playing an instrument at liturgies. Contact Hyunki Yoon at 816-501-4869.

Mass Hospitality

Mass Hospitality is an opportunity for student organizations to provide a valuable service to the Rockhurst community through assisting as greeters, ushers and gift-bearers and through hosting the post-Mass social. All of these roles may be filled by students of any faith tradition, so all Rockhurst students are welcome and encouraged to participate. This offering not only serves the Rockhurst community but also allows student groups an opportunity spend time together in a unique and meaningful capacity. To learn more or express interest, contact Bill Kriege at 816-501-4855.
