New Master’s Degree Preps Students for Information Systems Career

Rockhurst University’s College of Business and Technology will once again add to its graduate degree offerings in fall 2025 with the introduction of its Master of Science in Information Systems degree.
The STEM-designated MSIS program is designed to prepare students for high-demand careers in IT management, cybersecurity, data analytics and enterprise systems. Students in the program will pick up not only the technical expertise but also the leadership skills and global perspective needed to succeed in the fast-growing digital economy. Delivered in a hybrid format, the program offers the flexibility of both online and in-person classes to accommodate the needs of working professionals and full-time students.
The field of information systems integrates technology, data analytics and business strategy to solve complex challenges, streamline operations and drive digital transformation. Unlike traditional computer science or IT degrees, an MSIS focuses on the strategic application of technology within organizations to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
“This is a broad-based degree that will give students a wealth of skills across different fields in tech, from cybersecurity to IT project management, database management to systems analysis,” said Lyndsay Noble, director of analytics programs and clinical assistant professor at Rockhurst University. “Graduates of this program will be equipped to lead enterprise systems, manage cloud computing initiatives and drive digital strategy.”
As a degree program that is STEM-designated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the MSIS will also be an opportunity for international students interested in studying in the United States. For international and domestic students alike, the MSIS offers an opportunity to learn skills for one of the fastest growing jobs, preparing them to pursue careers such as information systems manager, data architect, cybersecurity analyst, business intelligence analyst, cloud solutions architect, IT project manager and chief information officer. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, these roles are projected to grow faster than average over the coming decade, driven by increasing demand for skilled professionals who can manage and secure organizational information systems.
The new program is part of a growing portfolio of offerings following the 2024 launch of the College of Business and Technology at Rockhurst University, an academic unit designed to marry the renowned business education programs in the Helzberg School of Management with an expanding roster of offerings in tech fields, unified by a whole-person approach to education that has made Rockhurst University a destination for aspiring leaders at all levels. As the College of Business and Technology continues to grow, Rockhurst leaders expect the MSIS will serve as a cornerstone program for future technology-focused degrees.
“Students choose Rockhurst because what a Jesuit education offers is more than a credential,” said Myles Gartland, Ph.D., dean of the College of Business and Technology. “Students in the MSIS program will of course leave with the technical knowledge they need to succeed in their careers, but a Rockhurst education is also about exploring and developing their sense of self, their sense of ethics, and their unique leadership style. This is an education that lasts a lifetime.”
