Pat Mosher, ’04 EMBA, was honored April 9 with the St. Ignatius Alumni Award by Rockhurst University in a ceremony honoring her 30-year career with HNTB in Kansas City, Missouri.

The St. Ignatius Alumni Award is presented annually to a Rockhurst alumnus/a to celebrate exceptional achievement and leadership in his/her professional field. Sandra Cassady, Ph.D., university president; Myles Gartland, Ph.D., dean of the College of Business and Technology; and Paula Moss, vice president of university advancement, were on hand at the HNTB headquarters to offer comments recognizing Mosher’s impact in her industry as well as on Rockhurst University.

"We are thrilled to present this award to Pat to help celebrate an outstanding 30-year career at HNTB. Her outstanding work and accomplishments not only stand out among alumni at Rockhurst, but across the entire Kansas City business community. Over her career, she has demonstrated exceptional technical skills, leadership ability, and a commitment to continually living out the mission and core values of Rockhurst University," Moss said.

Mosher has served in a variety of roles at HNTB, currently serving as senior vice president and corporate communications director for the architecture and infrastructure design firm. She has chaired the company’s Employee Stock Ownership Advisory Group since 2003. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Employees S Corporations of America (ESCA) and previously held national leadership roles with the American Council of Engineering Companies awards program for 10 years, as well as roles with the Kansas City chapter of the American Cancer Society, the Kansas City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas City Civic Council. In 2014, Mosher was named to the Kansas City Business Journal “Women Who Mean Business” list.

In addition to her distinguished career at HNTB, Mosher also has also served in many volunteer leadership roles for Rockhurst University, where she graduated as part of the executive MBA program in 2004, including as a member of the Rockhurst University Leaders Council and College of Business and Technology Dean’s Advisory Board.

“She may have graduated, but it seems Pat has never left the University,” said Myles Gartland, Ph.D., dean of the College of Busines and Technology. ”Pat exemplifies the namesake of this award, St. Ignatius of Loyola through her thoughtful discernment and being quick to listen and so to speak. Her advice to me and my predecessor was always deep with insight… It was not uncommon for Pat to stop me after a long board meeting with just one more insight that she wanted to share with me personally, and it was just perfect for that situation. Our college is better for her counsel.”

Mosher — who said she was convinced when she got the original phone call that the alumni relations staff simply wanted her to present the Ignatius award — said she was humbled by the honor. She said she views being involved in the Kansas City community and the Rockhurst community is a way to give back what she was given as a student. The opportunity to join Rockhurst’s EMBA program came at a pivotal time, five years into her career at HNTB, and it changed her perspective on how she approached both her work and life outside of it.

“I will treasure this, because to me it represents this wonderful intersection of the values of Rockhurst, the values of HNTB, and my values as a person,” she said. “Rockhurst changed my life.”
