  • About

Long known for its business and management degree programs, Rockhurst is now extending more targeted offerings to Kansas City companies looking to bring practical, focused development to its managerial staff from team lead to executive.

For over 40 years the Rockhurst Executive MBA program has taught more than a thousand professionals in the critical aspects of leadership skill and overall business acumen. In our leadership education offerings we carve out key parts of that program to provide firms some focused micro-programs in the areas of communication, management, and leadership.

What is the Rockhurst Leadership Institute?

What: A set of targeted communication, management, and leadership courses to grow capacity to get results. We have created three options for study that will provide meaningful development opportunities along three focus areas.

For Whom: Those experienced and high potential early career managers seeking development to make them a more effective leader / boss.

How: By employing Helzberg’s proven business program faculty to deliver courses that are practical and contextualized with real world application take-aways and convenient delivery for participants.

What are the different focus areas?

Communication: These courses focus on strategies to be a better communicator in organizational and interpersonal interaction with others. Participants will learn individual strategies for effective communication as a leader.

Management: These courses focus on strategies for how be an effective boss that can provide focus and direction, delegate effectively, bring people together to accomplish common goals, and identify and plan opportunities. Additional key strategic competencies of financial management and information management are offered. These courses approach the functional areas of finance and data analytics from a strategic perspective.

Leadership: These courses help the participant hone their personal qualities of a leader and learn additional strategies for how to implement change in their teams, departments, units, and firms. This offers a solid complement to the management focus.

Who are the target audiences?

Experienced and High Potential Managers: These are people in charge of units. High potential refers to inexperienced managers that the company has identified as having high potential to continue in the role and, perhaps, advance to more senior roles.

Team Leads and Supervisors: These are people with additional responsibilities for some area or sub-unit but aren’t involved in any significant planning. They do tend, however, to have influence on team or individual performance.
