
Incoming first-year and transfer students who wish to grow in a faith that does justice at Rockhurst University can apply for the $3,000/year Bernadette and Richard Miller scholarship. In the words of Mr. Richard Miller, “We hope to create a greater awareness that each of us must live for others and especially the 'least of our brethren.'”
Requirements for Scholarship Recipients
The Bernadette and Richard Miller scholarship will be awarded to a select group of incoming Rockhurst University students each year. The recipients are leaders in service and demonstrate dedication to their faith. Annual requirements include:
- Maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
- Complete and record (through Rockhurst Engage) at least 25 hours of community service. The service must be completed:
- Between August and May of each academic year
- Within the KC Metro area and/or through Rockhurst University programs (i.e., Solidarity-Immersion Trips)
- Successfully invite at least one Rockhurst University student to complete at least three hours of community service with you.
- Attend a dinner meeting (spring semester) with other Miller and Finucane Scholarship recipients to reflect upon the year of service.
- Participate in one (1) of the following Rockhurst University programs for spiritual growth:
- Retreat
- Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice
- Solidarity-Immersion Trip
- Laudato Si Nature Hike
- Lector/eucharistic/music/altar server ministry at student masses
- Leadership/participation in SEEK Interfaith Council
