Rockhurst University Receives State Grant to Enhance Nursing Program
This week, Rockhurst University was one of 20 Missouri colleges and universities selected to receive competitive grand funding to enhance their nursing education program, part of an effort to build the state’s nursing workforce.
The University’s Saint Luke’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences will receive $450,000 from the state’s Nursing Education Incentive Program, part of a $5 million grant award cycle announced Monday, to fund nursing faculty positions and nursing faculty scholarships, according to Kristina Henry, DNP, associate dean of nursing.
“We are honored to partner with the state of Missouri as part of the Nursing Education Incentive Program to provide more high-quality nursing professionals to our state,” she said. “For generations, we have been a leader in nursing education in Kansas City, and faculty have been the backbone of that legacy. This investment in our instructors will ensure we are well-positioned to help future generations excel in this field and meet the need for well-prepared, compassionate health care professionals in Missouri.”
The Missouri General Assembly voted to establish the Nursing Education Incentive Program to give nursing education programs in the state additional funding to increase faculty support, develop future faculty through scholarships and nursing educator programs, and invest in clinical simulation technology and equipment. Recipients were chosen based on several criteria, including NCLEX passage, graduation and job placement rates, as well as being located in an area of need for nurses.
