  • About

All students are expected to meet all Rockhurst University and UMKC standards. In addition the following are policies of the Engineering and Computing Program:

Probation

Definition: A period of time determined by the department in which a student proves they can successfully complete the course workload and level of the joint program. A student is placed on probation if they receive a grade of C- or lower, including I, W or changing to an AU during the semester, in any math, physics, chemistry, business or UMKC course that is asterisked; i.e., a major requirement in year 1 or year 2 of the catalog. Students will be notified via email by the engineering and computing program director they are on probation and a copy of the email will go in their file.

Return to non-probationary status

A student is no longer on probation if they do not receive a grade of C- or lower in any math, physics, chemistry, business or UMKC course that is asterisked in year 1 or year 2 of the major map in the catalog for two consecutive semesters. Students will be notified via email by the engineering and computing program director they are no longer on probation and a copy of the email will go in their file.

Removal from the joint program

A student who is on probation is removed from the joint program if:
  • Receipt of a grade of C- or less in an asterisked course which they are repeating from year 1 or year 2
  • Receipt of a grade of C- or less in any two courses asterisked course from year 1 or year 2
Students will be notified via email by the engineering and computing program director they have been removed from the program and a copy of this email will go in their file. A student may eventually request readmission to the program if they satisfy the requirements listed below.

Readmission to the joint program

Students who complete a full year of university as a full-time student following their removal from the program and demonstrate their ability to maintain grades of a C or above in math and physics classes may apply to the program for readmission. This application must be made by writing an email to the engineering and computing program director. This email must outline the student’s desire to return to the program, a summary of the evidence that the student has demonstrated their ability in math and physics classes, and a discussion of how the student plans to be successful in the program this time.

Dismissal from the program

Students may be dismissed from the joint program if they are removed from the program more than once or breach the Student Code of Conduct multiple times and/or in an egregious manner. Students may not request readmission to the program following a dismissal.
