University to Host Celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Jan. 24
Students, faculty, staff and community members alike are invited to take part in a recognition Friday, Jan. 24, of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
“As a Jesuit institution, Martin Luther King Jr. continues to be a light for all of us, a symbol of where we have been and where we aim to go, and an example of devoting oneself to the greater good,” said LaTisha Davis, Ed.D., chief inclusion officer. “We hope to share the spirit of Dr. King’s lessons and accomplishments with members of our community here on campus and beyond.”
The commemoration will begin with an interfaith prayer service at 1:30 p.m. in Mabee Chapel inside Massman Hall that will feature a performance from the choir at St. Monica’s Catholic Church.
Immediately following the service, attendees are invited to take part in the MLK Reflection Journey, processing from Massman Hall to the Greenlease Library led by members of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
At 2:30 p.m., the University will conclude the commemoration in Greenlease Library, highlighted by performances by Melissa Ferrer Civil, the first poet laureate of Kansas City, singer Gari LeAnn, the St. Monica choir, and student presentations.
