
The UMKC School of Medicine offers an MSA Scholars program that provides early and guaranteed admission to Rockhurst University students interested in pursuing the Master of Science in Anesthesia (MSA) program. The MSA program is 29 months long, with a curriculum designed to prepare students for successful immersion into the operating room during their first semester and to increase students’ competency throughout the program. Students admitted through the MSA Scholars program do NOT need to submit a GRE or MCAT score.
Admission Requirements
To be considered for the MSA Scholars program, Rockhurst students must meet the following criteria:
- Obtain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 of higher at the time of application. Students must earn a grade of B- or higher in all science coursework.
- Complete a minimum of 4 hours of shadowing experience with an anesthesia provider (anesthesiologist, Anesthesiologist Assistant, or CRNA)
Students must also submit the following required materials during the application process:
- School of Medicine MSA Scholars Application
- College/university transcripts
- Personal statement
- Resume or CV
- Minimum of 3 letters of recommendation
- Shadowing experience verification form
Students admitted to the program are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and a GPA of 3.5 in all science pre-requisite courses. See the full course list here.
Program Timeline
- Fall of sophomore year: If you are interested in applying for the program, identify yourself to Annie Lee, Ph.D., annie.lee@rockhurst.edu, or Laura Salem, Ph.D., laura.salem@rockhurst.edu. Current Rockhurst students may apply to the program during the summer between their junior and senior years of college.
- April 1: School of Medicine MSA Scholars Program application becomes available
- August 1: Application deadline; all supporting documents must be postmarked by this date
- Mid-September: Interview offers extended
- October: Interviews take place
- Mid-October: Offers of admission are extended
