The Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) has established a process for Jesuit colleges and universities to examine and reaffirm their Jesuit, Catholic, and liberal arts mission through a process called the Mission Priority Examen (MPE).

The MPE provides space and structure for Jesuit colleges and universities to undertake serious discussions about how the campus community understands its mission; establishes goals for its future; and realizes those goals in the years to come.
The Rockhurst University MPE
The MPE is comprised of several phases:
- Formation of a self-study committee that shepherds the entire MPE process. The self-study committee facilitates listening sessions and surveys that invite faculty, staff, students, and alumni to reflect upon the mission of Rockhurst.
- The committee writes a self-study report and puts forth two to four Mission Priorities that will guide the University.
- A peer review team visits the campus to engage in discussions with various
campus constituencies, and writes their own report. The peer review team consists of faculty and administrators from various Jesuit higher education institutions across the country. - The self-study report and the visiting team report are submitted to the Jesuit Superior General, who reviews all submitted materials, in order to reaffirm the school’s Jesuit, Catholic and humanistic mission and provide guidance
for its growth. - The institution implements her Mission Priorities and connects them to her strategic plan and other key documents and projects.
