About the Speaker
Lindsey Jarrett, Ph.D., is Vice President of Ethical AI for the Ethical AI Initiative, which works with regional collaborators to identify and articulate the ethical problems, risks and potential harms of using artificial intelligence and machine learning in health information and services without careful examination.
Dr. Jarrett draws on experience in program management, community-based research, and advocacy and community leadership in disability to advance evidence-based interventions that address equity issues for underserved communities as they interact with health providers and systems. She previously spent six years at Cerner, most recently as Lead Clinical Researcher.
She holds undergraduate degrees in Sociology and in Criminal Justice and Criminology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (2004), a master's degree in Social Policy and Administration from the University of Nottingham (2006), and a Ph.D. in Therapeutic Science from the University of Kansas (2015). Her research interests include engagement indicators, post-acute health outcomes, service learning, data visualization, universal design for learning, clinical intelligence, ethics and intelligence, and health care IT education.
In addition to her peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Jarrett has given dozens of poster presentations and community lectures. She is a co-founder of Music Across Borders and a victim advocate and speaker's bureau volunteer for the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA).
About Ellen F. Spake, PT, Ph.D.
The lecture series honors Ellen Spake, PT, Ph.D., a co-founder of Rockhurst's Physical Therapy Education Department in 1983. She chaired the Physical Therapy Education Program from 1983 to 2003, leading its curricular evolution from a bachelor's degree to a master's program and, ultimately, the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Dr. Spake later served as Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence and as Assistant to the President, directing the Office of Mission and Ministry. She retired from Rockhurst in 2018.
Dr. Spake holds a B.S. in Physical Therapy, an M.S. in Special Education, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, all from the University of Kansas.
