Mozart’s Missa in C Major, KV 220, was first performed at Salzburg Cathedral, where the young Mozart and his father were employed, on Easter Sunday, April 7, 1776. The joyful work displays a remarkable level of melodic elegance and profound expression for the 20-year old composer. It is nicknamed the “Sparrow Mass” (“Spätzenmesse”) due to the violin figures heard in the Sanctus and Osanna, which resemble bird trills. The ensemble will also perform Telemann's “Laudate jehovam, omnes gentes.”
