Student and University Responsibilities
Student Responsibilities
- Request accommodations and provide appropriate written documentation of the disability. This may mean the student must have testing and assessment done by a licensed professional at the student’s cost.
- For each semester that the student requests accommodations, the student must communicate to the DRC following their registration, as accommodation requests are complete in the order they are received.
- The student must request accommodations in a timely manner, allowing for enough lead time for the University to make appropriate arrangements. In order to receive timely accommodations, students are encouraged to provide faculty the letters within a week of the date on the letters.
- The student must arrange for and obtain their own personal attendants, private tutors, and individually fitted or designed assistive technologies.
- The student must bring any problems with accommodations to the attention of the DRC.
- The student must abide by all University policies and procedures.
University Responsibilities
- Assure you have provided enough information to confirm that you have a disability that substantially limits a life activity and understand how your disability will affect you at Rockhurst University.
- Work with you and the employees of the University (faculty or staff) to implement appropriate accommodations. While we take your accommodation preferences into consideration, not all accommodation requests will be granted. The University is not required to fundamentally alter programs or provide accommodations that compromise the essential course standards. If you request an accommodation and the request is denied, an alternative accommodation may be suggested and implemented.
- The DRC will assist you in developing conflict resolution skills as well as self-advocacy skills regarding your accommodations and your disability. We are available for support, clarification, and general consultation.
