Biography
Hyun-Ki Yoon is an active pianist and chamber musician who has performed throughout the world. His appearances include prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kauffman Center, and the Missouri Theatre in the United States; Seong-San Art Hall and the Bu-Cheon Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Hall in South Korea; the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House in Vietnam; Korea Kulturhaus Österreich and the Bezirksmuseum Floridsdorf in Austria; Festival Kefasfest in Czechia; Kunsthaus-Berlin-Marbella in Spain; and Kulturfabrik Ibach-Haus in Germany.
A native of South Korea, Dr. Yoon has received national recognition for his performances, which have been broadcast on the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). His work has also been featured through interviews and performance reviews in major South Korean newspapers and journals, including Dong-A Ilbo, Joong-Ang Daily, Bu-Cheon City, Gyeong-Nam Ilbo, and Gak-Seck.
Dr. Yoon has earned numerous accolades in piano competitions, including First Prize in the Eum-Yeon Piano Competition, the Music Education Newspaper Competition, and The American Prize Competition. He also received Second Prize in the American Protégé International Competition.
As a scholar and educator, Dr. Yoon has presented lectures and master classes for organizations and institutions such as the College Music Society (CMS), the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Albany State University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, the University of Delaware, the University of Wisconsin–Stout, Western Illinois University, Wichita State University, Chang-Shin University, Chu-Gye University for the Arts, and Missouri State University.
Dr. Yoon began his musical training at Chu-Gye University for the Arts in Seoul, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. He continued his studies at the University of Missouri–Columbia, completing a Master of Music in Piano Performance with Dean’s List honors. He later earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where he was awarded a full scholarship for the duration of his doctoral studies. His primary teachers are Dr. In-Mee Park and Dr. Robert Weirich.
He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music (Piano) and Director of Music and Liturgy at Rockhurst University, where he teaches Applied Piano I–IV, Music Theory, and Global Music, and coordinates liturgical music. Additionally, he holds the positions of President-Elect and Vice President of Adjudicators for the Missouri Music Teachers Association (MMTA).
