Communication & Fine Arts

Students walking on campus

The Department of Communication and Fine Arts combines the study of communication, business communication, journalism, media studies, art, music, and theatre. The purpose of the Department of Communication and Fine Arts is to provide an integrated study of the art and science of human communication. The majors include the study of communication at all levels of human interaction: intrapersonal, interpersonal, small group, public social, and artistic.

Rockhurst Advantage

A student-centered approach
The Communication and Fine Arts faculty use a student-centered approach in advising, instructing and coordinating internships for students. Students work closely with highly educated and qualified faculty members who emphasize student development in their small classes.

Hands-on experience
Faculty members have valuable connections in the Kansas City business community to help students find the internship opportunities that fit them best. Selected courses are taught by local professionals who offer networking opportunities and discuss current issues and trends.

Pulling it all together
Because the faculty who teach communication and fine arts work so closely together, students become well-rounded in the entire area. Students gain the knowledge, skills and understanding they need not only to get a job, but to pursue graduate studies and/or become leaders in their field.
