Men’s Basketball: RU falls at home before the holiday break
Rockhurst could not overcome a rash of turnovers in falling to McPherson, 71-64, Saturday night at RU’s Mason-Halpin Field House. The Bulldogs scored 30 points off 18 turnovers by the Hawks.
Mason Hewitt powered an 11-1 run to give McPherson a 50-40 lead with 13 minutes left to play. Hewitt scored 15 of his team-high 19 points in the second half. The Bulldogs shot 57.1 percent from the field in the second half.
Junior guard James Robinson paced the Hawks with 17 points behind five-of-seven shooting. B.J. Dunbar added 13 points and four steals. David Wingerson and Brandon McCann finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Liam Duffy led the Hawks with seven rebounds. Cooper Beckett collected six rebounds and three blocked shots.
Rockhurst, 1-6, is now off until Jan. 3 when the Hawks host Saint Joseph’s in their conference opener.
