Cabaret Comes to the Mabee Theater Stage

Rockhurst Theater will present Cabaret in Mabee Theater inside Sedgwick Hall on the Rockhurst University campus at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 20 and 21, and at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 22 and 23.  The musical is based on Christopher Isherwood’s book, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Set during Hitler’s rise to power when the country’s economy was shattered and millions of people were unemployed, Cabaret captures the essence of Berlin in the early ‘30s when the sleaze factor was launching a new Germany.

Cabaret has everything—music, dancing, beautiful girls and boys, and adult themes.  The story follows the relationships of two couples—29-year-old English cabaret performer Sally Bowels and young American writer Cliff Bradshaw, and a German boarding house owner Fräulein Schneider and her suitor and fruit shop owner Herr Schultz.

As history unfolds on stage, musical numbers entertain with the familiar “It Couldn’t Please Me More,” “Willkommen,” “Cabaret,” “Don’t Go,” “The Money Song” and “Two Ladies.”
