Rockhurst University to Play Host to Student Christmas Concert Tradition
Rockhurst University's student choruses will present the enduring and endearing tradition of Ceremony of Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in St. Francis Xavier Church, 1001 E. 52nd St., west of Rockhurst campus.
An instrumental ensemble of strings, winds and piano will accompany the Rockhurst University Chorus, Chamber Singers and Women's Chorale. The concert will feature traditional and nontraditional seasonal music; scripture readings representing the Christmas story; carols sung by the choruses and audience, which includes the popular rendition of "Silent Night"; and the program's signature finale – "O Holy Night."
Musical selections will comprise works by the early English Renaissance composer John Dunstable, 16th century German composer Clemens Non Papa, as well as the famous 20th-century setting of "I Wonder As I Wander" by John Jacob Niles.
Admission to the concert is free, but a donation of nonperishable food, a child's toy, or a grooming product is requested. A candlelight procession will lead audience members to a complimentary post-concert reception in Massman Hall on the Rockhurst University campus. To register your attendance, call 816-501-4828.
