Women’s Soccer: Skala receives Academic All-America honors
Rockhurst sophomore forward Taylor Skala was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Skala earned a spot on the Academic All-America® third team. She led the Hawks to a 14-4-3 record while finishing with 12 goals and 24 points. Skala currently carries a 3.97 cumulative grade point average while pursuing a degree in Biology (Pre-Optometry).
The Long Grove, Ill., native ranked third in goals and tied for fourth in points scored in the GLVC. She was named to the All-GLVC First Team for the second year in a row. She also earned first team All-Region honors from the NSCAA and Daktronics for the second time. The 2011 GLVC Freshman of the Year has 54 career points (25 goals and four assists).
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 D-III Academic All-America® teams program.
