Men’s Basketball: Hawks drop pair at Hillyard Classic
Missouri Western rallied from a nine-point deficit to defeat Rockhurst 60-45 Saturday night at the Hillyard Classic in St. Joseph, Mo. The loss drops the Hawks to 1-3 on the season heading into Tuesday’s game at the Sprint Center against second-ranked Washburn.
The Griffons shot 59.1 percent in the second half to overcome a 41-32 deficit with 16 minutes left to play. Rockhurst was held to five-of-27 shooting in the final 20 minutes. The Hawks took a 31-26 lead into halftime.
Brandon McCann paced the Hawks with 10 points. David Wingerson scored eight points. B.J. Dunbar added seven points, eight rebounds and three assists.
On Friday, Rockhurst suffered a 55-38 loss to Northwest Missouri State on the first day of the Hillyard Classic. Kareem Amedu led the Hawks with eight points and five rebounds.
