Men’s Soccer: Magee headlines seven Hawks on All-GLVC Teams
2012 All-GLVC HonoreesRockhurst junior forward Mark Magee was named the 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Magee was one of seven Rockhurst players to receive All-GLVC honors, while RU’s Tony Tocco was honored by his peers as the Coach of the Year.
Magee is the first Rockhurst player to be selected GLVC Offensive Player of the Year. He led the conference in goals (14), goals per game (0.82), game-winning goals (6), points (36) and points per game (2.12) this season. He was also second in assists (8) and assists per game (0.47). Magee scored his 14th goal of the season in the Hawks’ 2-0 victory over Lewis in the quarterfinals of the 2012 GLVC Tournament on Sunday.
Tocco earned his second-straight GLVC Coach of the Year Award and the third of his career. He was also recognized by his fellow coaches in 2008. Under Tocco’s watch, Rockhurst finished the regular season with a league-best 12-2-1 conference mark and is currently 15-2-2 overall. Tocco’s career record is 615-170-59.
Joining Magee on the All-GLVC first team from Rockhurst are midfielders Nick McDonald and Paolo Scoppola, defender Dan Frohock and goalkeeper Ryan Bass. The Hawks also had two second team selections: midfielder Lucas De Rossi and defender Jon Schreiber. Magee, McDonald, Scoppola, Bass, De Rossi and Schreiber repeated as All-GLVC honorees.
Top-seeded Rockhurst will host No. 5 Southern Indiana at 7:30 Friday night in the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament. No. 2 Quincy meets No. 6 Missouri-St. Louis in the first semifinal game at 5 p.m. at RU’s Bourke Field.
