Acclaimed Poet Gjertrud Schnackenberg Reads From Work
Cited as the most talented American poet of her generation by The New York Times Book Review, Gjertrud Schnackenberg will present her poems as part of the 28th season of the Midwest Poets Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, in Mabee Theater on the Rockhurst University campus.
Known for her books Supernatural Love, A Gilded Lapse of Time, and The Throne of Labdacus,Schnackenberg will be celebrating publication of her new book, Heavenly Questions. Influenced by an ancient Eastern work, Heavenly Questions includes six long poems that comprise a single love poem, in rhyme-rich verse.
Schnackerberg has won The Los Angeles Times Book Prize, American Academy of Arts and Letters Award and Rome Prize in Literature. The New Leader has commented on her work's "intellectual, aesthetic and technical marvels." She has taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Washington University and Smith College, and she lives in Washington state.
Admission to this public event is $3 at the door.
