Alice Friman to Read for Midwest Poets Series Oct. 30
Alice Friman will read for the Midwest Poets Series to celebrate the publication of her sixth full-length collection of poetry, The View from Saturnat 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, in Mabee Theater inside Sedgwick Hall on the Rockhurst University campus.
According to 1987 Midwest Poets Series guest Kelly Cherry, “Lines in [Friman’s] poems are often refreshed by jazzed rhythm and electrically exact diction.”
Friman has written several other books, which have received high acclaim. Her book Vinculum won the 2012 Georgia Author of the Year Award in Poetry and her book Zoo won the Sheila Margaret Motton Prize and the Ezra Pound Poetry Award. She has also received a Pushcart Prize as well as three awards from the Poetry Society of America and has been included in The Best American Poetry.
Born in New York City, Friman is professor emerita of English and creative writing at the University of Indianapolis and currently poet-in-residence at Georgia College.
