Men’s Soccer: Hawks finish in first place in the GLVC standings
Rockhurst finished in first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings with a 2-1 victory at William Jewell Wednesday night in Liberty, Mo.
The sixth-ranked Hawks, 14-2-2 overall, finished in first place in the GLVC with a 12-2-1 conference record. Top-seeded Rockhurst will host No. 8 seed Lewis in the first round of the GLVC Tournament on Sunday in a noon start.
The winning goal for Rockhurst came on an own goal at the 24:19 mark. Jewell headed the ball into the Hawks’ goal. Junior forward Mark Magee tied the score at 1-1 with a shot from 22 yards out at the 23:00 mark with an assist from Sean Verbanic.
Magee is the GLVC leader in points (34) and goals (13). He ranks in the top 10 in NCAA Division II in points, assists and goals. Rockhurst head coach Tony Tocco now has 614 career wins. Tocco ranks No. 2 on the career win list for all levels of intercollegiate men’s college soccer coaches.
The Hawks outshot Jewell 13-9. Magee led Rockhurst with six shots. Verbanic added three shots. Ryan Bass stopped three shots to improve his season save total to 57.
