Volleyball: Stratman powers Hawks past Newman
Freshman Kelsey Stratman collected 17 kills, seven blocks and 22 points to power Rockhurst to a 3-1 victory over Newman Tuesday night at RU’s Mason-Halpin Field House. Stratman leads the GLVC in solo blocks (20) and ranks second in blocks (1.33 per set) and sixth in hitting percentage (.311) in the conference.
Rockhurst breezed to 25-14 and 25-12 wins in the first two sets. Newman won the third set, 25-20, before the Hawks closed out the match with a 25-16 win. The Hawks, now 18-4 overall, have won six of their seven home matches.
Emily Ready finished with eight kills and three blocks. Katie Loescher and Maggie Hummel combined for 14 kills. Whitney Kostal posted 45 assists and 14 digs. Victoria Mahl collected a team-high 20 digs.
Rockhurst, second in the GLVC West with a 7-2 record, return to conference play this weekend at Wisconsin-Parkside (Friday) and Lewis (Saturday).
