Volleyball: Mahl receives GLVC accolades
Rockhurst junior libero Victoria Mahl has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, following her impressive three-match efforts at the 2012 GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Volleyball Tournament last week.
Mahl led the Hawks with 69 digs over three matches last week at the Crossover. She helped Rockhurst to a 2-1 record in the event, carding 3-1 victories against Findlay and No. 25 Northwood, while falling 3-1 to Hillsdale in the second match. The St. Louis, Mo., native averaged 5.75 digs per set over 12 total sets on the week, earning her GLVC/GLIAC Crossover All-Tournament accolades for her efforts. Mahl currently ranks ninth in digs in the GLVC at 4.22 per set.
This week’s award is the first of Mahl’s career and the third time this season a Hawk has been honored with the league’s defensive award. Rockhurst’s Kelsey Stratman and Whitney Kostal were recognized on Sept. 24 and Oct. 1, respectively.
