The Delta Sigma Pi chapter at Rockhurst University has earned the business fraternity’s highest national award for Outstanding Scholastic Development.

The award was presented at the Leadership and Excellence for Delta Sigs (LEAD) conference in New Orleans on Oct. 16. The Omega Nu chapter from Rockhurst beat more than 270 other chapters to win the award. Previous winners include the University of Illinois and University of Pittsburgh.

“We are a relatively young chapter and to be able to compete successfully on the national level really speaks to the dedication of our collegiate members and recent alumni as well as the constant support of the faculty and staff at Rockhurst and in the Helzberg School of Management,” said chapter President Bryan Reese Clark.

The Outstanding Scholastic Development award is based on the chapter’s efforts to improve the academic performance and post-graduate preparedness of its members. The Nu Omega chapter accomplished this in several ways. For example, chapter members presented a seminar on how to apply for scholarships offered by the Helzberg School of Management. Also, the chapter created an online test file repository – with approval and help from professors at the Helzberg School.

In the last three years, the chapter has seen great improvement in their overall GPA. They also have had more than 40 of their 60 members named to the Dean’s List.

At regional and provincial competitions earlier this year, the chapter won nine other awards, including Outstanding Professional Activities, Chapter Advisor of the Year and Outstanding Service.

The Omega Nu chapter at Rockhurst was founded 10 years ago. Delta Sigma Pi is a coeducational professional fraternity for college students studying business.
