Volleyball: Hawks upset No. 25 Northwood
Sophomore outside hitter Maggie Hummel posted 15 points, 12 kills and five blocks to power Rockhurst to a 3-1 upset victory over 25th-ranked Northwood Saturday in the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover in Aurora, Ill.
The Hawks split the first two sets, wining the first set 25-14 and dropping the second set 25-17. Rockhurst proceeded to win the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-22. The Hawks finished with 44 kills while posting a .230 hitting percentage. Emily Ready collected 14 points, 10 kills and seven blocks. Katie Loescher added nine kills. Whitney Kostal totaled 32 assists. Victoria Mahl posted a team-high 15 digs.
Mahl, who finished with 69 digs in three matches, was named to the Crossover All-Tournament team. The Hawks finished with a 2-1 record in the Crossover. The GLVC won the head-to-head battle with the GLIAC by a 28-20 margin.
On Friday, Mahl posted a season-high 30 digs to lead the Hawks to a 3-1 win over Findlay and added 24 digs in a 3-1 loss to Hillsdale. Loescher combined for 27 kills in the two Friday matches. Alyssa Arnold posted 11 kills in each of Friday’s matches. Kostal finished with 84 assists on Friday.
Rockhurst, 17-2 and 7-2 in the GLVC, return home to host Newman on Tuesday night.
