Women’s Soccer: No. 12 Hawks settle for 0-0 tie at USI
Rockhurst was held scoreless for the second time this season, settling for a 0-0 tie at Southern Indiana on Sunday in Evansville, Ind. The Hawks, now 10-0-2 overall, are tied for first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with William Jewell with an 8-0-2 record. Rockhurst next faces McKendree at home on Friday.
The Hawks outshot USI 19-10, including 12-5 over the final 65 minutes. Haley Long and Kasey Lierz led Rockhurst with four shots apiece. Lucy Sullivan posted her seventh shutout of the season while making six saves. She leads the GLVC with a 0.40 goals against average.
On Friday, junior midfielder Katie Kujawa scored two goals to lead Rockhurst to a 4-1 victory at Kentucky Wesleyan. Kujawa opened the scoring with a goal in the 19th minute off a pass from Lierz. Taylor Skala scored her team-high ninth goal of the season to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead at the 60:21 mark, assisted by Paige Sielfleisch. Caroline Brandt put the Hawks in front 3-1 in the 77th minute with an unassisted goal. Kujawa capped the scoring with a goal in the 83rd minute.
Rockhurst outshot the Panthers 27-14. Kujawa led the Hawks with five shots. Brandt and Lierz each added four shots. Sullivan stopped seven Panther shots.
