Volleyball: Hawks suffer home loss to No. 9 Indianapolis
Rockhurst suffered its first home loss of the season, falling to ninth-ranked Indianapolis 3-0 Sunday at Mason-Halpin Field House. The Hawks, who dropped the first two sets 25-21 and 25-18, rallied to take a 22-21 lead in the third set before Indy came back for a 25-23 win.
Maggie Hummel led the Hawks with 12 kills and a .480 hitting percentage. Katie Loescher added 10 kills. Whitney Kostal posted 38 assists and seven digs. Victoria Mahl collected 12 digs and Emily Ready had a team-high five blocks.
The Hawks, 15-3 overall and 7-2 in the GLVC West, will play three matches in the GLVC-GLIAC Crossover on Friday and Saturday in Aurora, Ill.
On Saturday, freshman Jordan Ruiz collected 12 kills with a .476 hitting percentage to lead Rockhurst to a 3-1 victory over Saint Joseph's at Mason-Halpin. After splitting the first two sets, the Hawks closed out the match with 25-12 and 25-10 wins. Mahl posted a team-high 20 digs. Kostal finished with 52 assists and nine digs. Ready totaled 11 kills and six blocks. Hummel collected 11 kills and five blocks. Loescher also had 11 kills. Kelsey Stratman added nine kills and four blocks.
