Women's Soccer: Skala named GLVC Player of the Week
Rockhurst's Taylor Skala has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week. The sophomore forward found the back of the net in both the Hawks’ 2-0 upset over No. 7 Quincy on Friday and 2-1 overtime victory over Illinois Springfield on Sunday.
Against Quincy, Skala scored an insurance goal in the win, while firing a total of two shots. She responded on Sunday with a game-tying goal in an overtime win over Springfield, giving the Hawks sole possession of first place in the conference standings at 7-0-1.
The Long Grove, Ill., native is the team leader in points (14) and goals (7) this season. The reigning GLVC Freshman of the Year and All-Conference selection currently ranks fourth in goals per game (0.78) and seventh in points per game (1.56).
This is the second career weekly award for Skala and the first for a Hawk since Skala earned her first accolade last year on Oct. 24.
The Hawks are 8-0-1 overall and travel to Washburn on Tuesday night before hitting the road to Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana this weekend.
