Volleyball: Rockhurst sweeps GLVC weekly awards
A pair of Rockhurst freshmen, middle hitter Kelsey Stratman and setter Whitney Kostal, claimed the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baden Player of the Week accolades for the week ending Sept. 29 as announced by the league.
Stratman (Omaha, Neb.) was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week. This is Stratman's second Player of the Week Award this season. She was selected the Defensive Player of the Week last week.
Stratman led Rockhurst with 44 points (4.40 per set), 33 kills (3.30 per set) and 19 blocks (1.90 per set) in three matches last week. She also led the Hawks with a .473 hitting percentage for the week. Stratman ranks second in blocks (1.49 per set) and ninth in hitting percentage (.303) in the GLVC.
Kostal (Papillion, Neb.), the GLVC Defensvie Player of the Week, led the Hawks with 35 digs (3.50 per set) and 104 assists (10.4 per set) in three matches. She ranks fourth in the GLVC in assists (10.25 per set).
The Hawks claimed three victories against Missouri Western (3-1), Quincy (3-0) and Illinois Springfield (3-0) to improve their record to 14-2 for the season.
Rockhurst, second in the GLVC West with a 6-1 record, returns home to host Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m.
