Kelley Johnson’s Paintings to Premiere at Greenlease Gallery
Artist Kelley Johnson will open an exhibition of his new works, titled Paintings, at Rockhurst University’s Greenlease Gallery on Friday, Sept. 5.
Johnson’s works explore the ways in which painting can illustrate atmospheres and sensations. Through the repetition of shapes, Johnson creates melodious rhythms in his pieces. Juxtaposed geometric lines and spontaneously blurred arcs evoke feelings of depth and vibration. Johnson’s colors either amplify or silence patterns. Johnson carefully chooses these elements to demonstrate how his paintings are components of a living language and are not static canvases that hang on a wall.
Johnson received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Parsons School of Design in New York City, and his Master of Fine Arts from the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts at Indiana University. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally.
The Center for Arts and Letters at Rockhurst University and the Greenlease Gallery invite the public to an opening reception for Kelley Johnson from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, in the gallery. The exhibit will be on display through Oct. 18. The Greenlease Gallery is located between Van Ackeren and Sedgwick halls on the Rockhurst University campus at 54th Street at Troost Avenue.
