Priest Discusses How Business Helped Bridge the Gang Divide

The Rev. Gregory Boyle, S.J., Jesuit priest and founder of Homeboy Industries, will present Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion, at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, in the Convocation Center on the Rockhurst University campus. Fr. Boyle will share stories of how business, and caring for others, bridged the gang divide in Los Angeles.

In the gang capital of the world, Fr. Boyle founded Homeboy Industries, a program aimed at addressing the escalating problems and unmet needs of gang-involved youth. After more than 20 years of building Homeboy Industries, it is now recognized as the largest gang intervention program in the country. Fr. Boyle has been a featured speaker at the White House and has earned numerous awards for his humanitarian work.

This year's Rockhurst University freshman class read and discussed Fr. Boyle's book, which carries the same title as his presentation, as part of a year-long First Year Experience program that has transformation as its theme.

Fr. Boyle’s presentation is sponsored by the Helzberg School of Management Center for Leadership and Ethics and Sullivan Chair in Ethics and the Rockhurst Student Organization for Latinos.
