Women’s Soccer: No. 19 Hawks settle for 0-0 tie at Maryville
Rockhurst remained unbeaten while settling for a 0-0 tie at Maryville Sunday in St. Louis. The 19th-ranked Hawks, 6-0-1, who are off to their best start in school history, fell one game short of tying the school record of seven consecutive wins.
The Hawks outshot Maryville 12-5. Seven of Rockhurst's shots came in the second half. Taylor Skala led the Hawks with three shots and two shots on goal. Caroline Brandt and Brandi Van Booven also posted two shots on goal. Lucy Sullivan stopped three Maryville shots while posting her fourth shutout of the season.
The Hawks, currently in second place in the GLVC with a 5-0-1 league record, return home to host GLVC front-runner Quincy on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
On Friday, Skala scored two goals to lead Rockhurst to a 3-1 victory at Missouri-St. Louis. Skala opened the scoring with a shot into the deep right corner of the net in the 13th minute off a pass from Jessica Cook. Nicky Alfonsin chipped a shot over the keepers head to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead at the 63:34 mark assisted by Kasey Lierz. Skala put the Hawks in front 3-1 in the 86th minute with a seven-yard shot with assists from Alfonsin and Paige Sielfleisch.
Rockhurst outshot the Tritons 14-6. Skala led the Hawks with six shots and four shots on goal. Julia Bartolacci added three shots. Sullivan stopped four UMSL shots.
