Men’s Soccer: McDonald named GLVC Player of the Week
Rockhurst’s Nick McDonald has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, it was announced Monday. McDonald led the Hawks with three goals and seven points while helping the team to a pair of conference wins last week against Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis.
On Friday, the junior forward scored two goals in Rockhurst’s 3-0 win over Parkside and was then responsible for both goals in the 2-1 double overtime win over Lewis. He assisted on the game-tying goal in the 83rd minute of regulation and scored the winning goal with 1:32 left in the second overtime.
This is the first weekly honor for McDonald and he is the first Rockhurst player honored by the league since Mark Magee on Oct. 3, 2011.
The Overland Park, Kan., native is tied on the team with four goals and 10 points this season. He ranks tied for fourth in points and goals in the GLVC, and is the conference’s co-leader in game-winning goals (2). The Hawks (5-0-1), ranked No. 10 in the nation last week and first in the Midwest Region, are tied for first place in the GLVC with a 4-0 league record.
