Women’s Soccer: Hawks remain unbeaten
The Rockhurst Hawks posted a 3-1 victory over Lewis (Ill.) on Sunday at RU’s Bourke Field to improve their record to 5-0.
Taylor Skala opened the scoring with a shot from eight yards out in the seventh minute. Ally Rodriguez and Julia Bartolacci assisted on the goal. Rodriguez came back two minutes to score on a six-yard header. Kasey Lierz gave the Hawks a 3-1 lead by knocking a penalty kick past the Lewis keeper.
The Hawks outshot the Flyers 23-5. Morgan Dahm led Rockhurst with four shots. Caroline Brandt and Skala added three shots each. Senior goalkeeper Lucy Sullivan stopped threw Lewis shots.
On Friday, Lierz scored early in the second half to carry Rockhurst to a 1-0 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside in their home opener at Bourke Field. Lierz found the upper right of the goal from 10 yards out off a pass from freshman Julia Bartolacci at the 51:50 mark.
The Hawks dominated the first half with four shots on goal. The Hawks, ranked fourth in the NSCAA Division II Midwest Region poll, outshot the Rangers 13-3 while posting six shots on goal. Skala led Rockhurst with three shots. Freshman midfielder Jessica Cook added a team-high two shots on goal. Sullivan made two saves.
The Hawks are tied for first place in the GLVC standings with Quincy with a 4-0 league record. Rockhurst next faces Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville on the road on Friday and Sunday.
