Visiting Scholar Challenges Americans to Support Philanthropy

Claire Gaudiani, Ph.D., an expert in the history and economics of philanthropy and a renowned author on the subject, will present, "Philanthropic Leadership: Making God's Good World Better" for the Visiting Scholar Lecture Series at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, in Rockhurst University's Massman Hall.

According to Gaudiani, philanthropy lies at the very heart of American democracy and its importance as a career choice is immeasurable. A self-described idealist and activist, Gaudiani will discuss how Americans can harness the tradition of moral entrepreneurship to solve today's continuing problems of poverty and inequality. Noting the challenges of the moment as well as the opportunity, Gaudiani will set forth an agenda for forward generous investment to ensure America's social and economic success.

Rockhurst nonprofit leadership students study Gaudiani's book, The Greater Good: How Philanthropy Drives the American Economy and Can Save Capitalism, which challenges readers to maintain and increase generosity.
