Volleyball: Rockhurst wins GLVC opener at Drury
Sophomore middle hitter Emily Ready posted 12 points, 10 kills and four blocks to power Rockhurst to a 3-0 victory over Drury in a Great Lakes Valley Conference opener Friday night in Springfield, Mo.
The Hawks won the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-12. Ready finished out both sets with a pair of kills. Rockhurst jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the third set on the way to a 25-17 win. The Hawks finished with 41 kills while posting a .326 hitting percentage.
Freshman middle hitter Kelsey Stratman collected 11 points, eight kills and four blocks. Freshman Jordan Ruiz totaled seven kills and four blocks. Freshman Katie Loescher and sophomore Maggie Hummel combined for 15 kills and seven digs. Freshman setter Whitney Kostal added 31 assists and nine digs. Freshman Lauren Poulicek also finished with nine digs.
On Saturday, the Hawks suffered a 3-0 loss at Missouri S&T. The Lady Miners won the first set 25-12, overcame a set point to win the second set 26-24 and captured the third set 25-18. Hummel led the Hawks with 11 kills and five blocks. Kostal posted 24 assists and 13 digs.
Rockhurst, 8-2 and 1-1 in the GLVC, will host William Jewell in its home opener Tuesday at 7 p.m.
