Southtown Council Picks Prosperity Center as a “Gem”
The Prosperity Center for Financial Opportunity at 5151 Troost Ave. was honored among other businesses, leaders and institutions by the Southtown Council for the center’s contributions to the Southtown community.
The Prosperity Center was one in a room of what Southtown Council President Robin Jordan called “enough gems to dazzle the sun,” referring to the stakeholders who contributed not only to the area’s economic development, but to the beautification of its public spaces, schools and residential areas. The Prosperity Center received the Crystal Award for its work.
Formed as a partnership among Rockhurst University, Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Full Employment Council, Greater Kansas City LISC and the United Way of Greater Kansas City, the Prosperity Center opened in June 2013 with a mission to help clients attain their financial goals in three different service areas: career guidance, financial coaching and income-support assistance. More than 100 different clients have received ongoing help from the center since its opening. Those clients have come from two different states, 36 different ZIP codes and 16 cities across the Kansas City region.
“I’m grateful for this recognition from the Southtown Council,” said Prosperity Center Director Kourtney Woodbury. “The Prosperity Center staff works very hard to provide a place for not only Southtowners, but all Kansas City-area residents to come and get the help they need to find long-lasting financial stability. We appreciate all the help we get in working toward that mission from our friends and partners in this community.”
