Rockhurst and Neighborhood Host Back-To-School Celebration
Rockhurst University and the 49/63 Neighborhood Association have teamed to support neighborhood families by hosting a Back-To-School celebration from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug, 6, at the Rockhurst University Community Center.
The Back-To-School event will feature a bike safety clinic, free school supplies, bike helmets, displays of community resources and face painting. Participating community partners include Revolve KC, The Kansas City Public Library, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, LINC Caring Communities, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Research Medical Center, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Blue Hills Family Life Center, The Kansas City Zoo, Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center, and more. Sponsors include the Rockhurst University Neighborhood Committee, UMKC and Associated Purchasing Service.
The event is organized by members of the Rockhurst University Neighborhood Committee, which includes representatives of Rockhurst, 49/63 Neighborhood Association, Troostwood Neighborhood Association, Troost Plateau Neighborhood Association, Brush Creek Community Partners, Southtown Council and the UMKC Office of Community Affairs.
The Community Center is located at 5401 Troost Ave. Parking is available adjacent to the building. The event is free and for families with elementary school children, ages 5-12. Children must be present to receive school supplies and bike helmets. For more information, call (816) 501-4306.
