Rockhurst University President the Rev. Thomas B. Curran, S.J., on the Ongoing Violence in Nicaragua
Over the past several weeks, our thoughts and prayer intentions have included the growing political tensions in Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua. These concerns include the safety and well-being of our compañeros at our fellow Jesuit institution, the Universidad Centroamericana of Nicaragua (UCA) in Managua. Now, we are intensifying our prayer intentions for the Nicaraguan government to honor the constitutional rights of its citizens to protest peacefully.
Rockhurst University and the UCA – Nicaragua share a deep desire to educate and form men and women to serve for and with others. In solidarity, we seek a more just world that can only be achieved through peaceful engagement and thoughtful conversation. And, we both reject threats and the intimidation of anyone who seeks justice. May our thoughts and prayers prevail upon the Nicaraguan government into a peaceful and constructive way of proceeding.
Rev. Thomas B. Curran, S.J.
