Baseball: Himmelberg named Academic All-American

Rockhurst starting pitcher Mark Himmelberg has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Himmelberg, an accounting major, graduated from Rockhurst this spring with a 3.92 grade point average. The senior right-hander capped off his four-year career with a pair of postseason wins over Lewis in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and Northern Kentucky in the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament.

Overall in 2012, Himmelberg finished with an 8-2 record and 2.58 ERA while striking out 58 hitters over 73.1 innings. He ended his college career with a 26-11 record and 4.11 ERA with 111 strikeouts in 243.1 innings.

Rockhurst finished with a 35-19 record in 2012 and reached the finals of the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ypsilanti, Mich. The Hawks posted a 123-91 record over the past four seasons with Himmelberg on the pitching staff.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
